I have always deeply admired Spanish music: its rhythms, its colours, and its intensity. The authenticity within the Spanish repertoire, as powerful as it is extensive, captivated me from the outset of my musical career. Perhaps, my own Andalusian roots have contributed towards my close identification with the interpretation of this music.

It gives me immense satisfaction to have been able to work with − and even record − a good many Spanish-inspired scores. One should not fail to mention: the power and talent of the illustrious Falla and Turina; the magnitude of Isaac Albéniz, “a converted Andalusian”, according to Joachín Turina; the lyricism and intimism of Mompou; the mastery of Rodrigo; the freshness of Ernesto Halffter; the romanticism of Granados; the warmth and infinite grace of the artists from Malaga, Rafael Mitjana, Eduardo Ocón, and Emilio Lehmberg; the artistry and sensitivity of José Muñoz Molleda, from Cadiz; and the poetry and expression of one of our best composers of all time, Antón Garcia Abril.

I shall continue, then, with delving into and investigating the careers of these great Spanish maestros and artists. My commitment as a Spanish performer will always be faithful to my origins. I shall aim to base my future recording and bibliographical works on this exciting field.
